This is a handcrafted wooden replica of the Aztec Sun Stone, often called the "Aztec calendar stone". The original stone monolith was found in Mexico City in 1790 and is a significant artifact of Aztec cosmology. It depicts the 20 day-signs of the tonalpohualli, a sacred divinatory calendar system. The central face is believed to be the sun god, Tonatiuh. While commonly called a calendar, some historians suggest it might have served as an altar for rituals.
