Crystal Wand Making Course
Crystal Wand Making Course
This course offers a hands-on journey into the craft of creating Crystal Pointed Antler Wands, blending the raw, earthy energy of naturally shed deer antlers with the focused resonance of quartz and other gemstones. Participants will learn the technical skills required to marry these two distinct materials into a single, cohesive tool.
Course Overview
In this workshop, we focus on the structural integrity and aesthetic balance of the wand. You will be guided through the process of selecting a shed, preparing the bone, and securely mounting a crystal point using traditional and modern bonding techniques.
Key Learning Objectives
Antler Selection & Preparation: Understanding the anatomy of a deer shed. You will learn how to clean, sand, and prep the "burr" or "tine" of the antler to create a stable base for your crystal.
Crystal Geometry: Selecting the right crystal point for your specific antler. We will discuss how the weight and shape of the stone affect the balance of the wand in your hand.
The Art of Bonding: Mastering the use of sculpting adhesives and bails. We will cover how to create a seamless transition between the bone and the stone using epoxy clays or decorative soldering.
Aesthetic Adornment: Techniques for embellishing your wand with copper filigree, leather wraps, or inset smaller stones to personalize the finished piece.
Tools & Materials Provided
To ensure a high-quality finish, all specialized equipment is included in the course:
Sustainably Sourced Sheds: A variety of real deer antlers.
Natural Crystal Points: Including Clear Quartz, Amethyst, and Smoky Quartz.
Workshop Tools: Precision rotary tools for carving, various grits of sandpaper, and professional-grade bonding agents.
Finishing Supplies: Natural oils and waxes to preserve the antler’s texture and sheen.
What to Expect
This is a technical and tactile class. You will be working with your hands, using carving tools, and handling natural materials. By the end of the session, you will have a completed, weighted wand and the knowledge of how to care for the organic materials to ensure they last a lifetime.
Note: We exclusively use naturally shed antlers. No animals are ever harmed for the materials in this course; these are the "forest's gifts" gathered after the deer's natural annual shedding cycle.
