A Devil's Pod, also known as a Bat Nut, is the seed of the Trapa Bicornis Plant, a water caltrop native to Asia. It's shaped in such a way that it resembles a leering goat-horned devil, an enraged bull, or a flying bat, hence its various names. In Hoodoo folk magic and other occult practices, it's used as a protective charm, warding off evil and negative energies. Practitioners place Devil's Pods above doorways as a protective charm, while others carry them in bags or anoint them with oil to protect against enemies. The pod's shape is believed to represent malevolent forces, and using it in a protective way is seen as a way to counteract those forces.
In Chinese culture, bats are considered lucky, so some consider this seed a good luck charm. The seed is said to resemble a bat; and because the word Bat in Chinese is similar to the word for Happiness, having this seed is said to be a very auspicious (lucky) charm to have in your possession.
